A definite non-sailor Sketchi got involved in Sailing from the technology side. Starting with Maxi-Boats and then America's Cup class boats, he participated in the Maxi World Championships, the 1992 and 1995 America3 Foundation America's Cup Campaigns and later with the Young America Syndicate. Team America3 defied all the experts and won the 1992 Cup.

The sailors were backed up by a large group of technology driven folks. Within this the Instrumentation Team included more than a dozen folks.
